Office of the Chief Scientist: Summer reading list

Thursday, 01 December 2016

Following the release of the Chief Scientist’s summer reading list, the staff of the Office of the Chief Scientist have also compiled a list of their favourite books for summer.

The books vary widely in topic, style and age, although science and science fiction seem to dominate! From old classics to fresh-off-the-shelf publications, we hope you enjoy these as much as we do.

In no particular order:

Gaia Vince, Adventures in the Anthropocene

Isaac Asimov, Foundation

Hannah Kent, The Good People

Malcolm Gladwell, What the Dog Saw

Jane Harper, The Dry

Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner, Freakonomics and Super Freakonomics

Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed

Stanisław Lem, Solaris

The Best Australian Science Writing 2016, edited by Jo Chandler

Hermann Hesse, The Glass Bead Game
