Keynote address at the launch of St James Ethics Centre’s Vincent Fairfax Fellowship Program
This is an annual event including to launch the Vincent Fairfax Fellowship Program and the 2010 Vincent Fairfax Oration with keynote speaker Professor Penny Sackett, Chief Scientist for Australia on ’scientists and society in an ethical world’
Professor Sackett will probe the inter-relationship between scientists, society at large, and ethics in today’s world where organizations and individual citizens are engaged in debates about scientific issues such as climate change and sustainability. Is science value-neutral? Should it be? Should scientists have an ethical obligation to society? Should they take a leadership role in ethical discussions? If not, who should? What is the obligation of society to scientists in an ethical world?
The event is free to attend.
