Storytime Pledge – Prof. Emma Johnston

As part of his #StorytimePledge campaign, Australia’s Chief Scientist Dr Alan Finkel has challenged everyone to share a great book with a special child over the summer holidays.

We’ll be sharing Storytime Pledges from notable Australian scientists here all week – check back regularly for updates!

Storytime Pledge day 6 – Prof. Emma Johnston

First, a word from Emma:

“This was a difficult task as my kids and I love too many books! I have sent two recommendations – one for younger kids – and one for older.”

Name: Emma Johnston

I grew up to be: Dean of Science at UNSW and President of Science and Technology Australia (STA)

Book recommendation: The Snail and the Whale, by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler

Reason: This books takes you on a lyrical journey through many seas – and shows how even a tiny snail can save a whale.

I pledge to read to: My nephew who is 4 years old (but I bet the older kids will huddle round to hear this old favourite)
